Re: Chat button in Overgrowth?
If I recall correctly because of what was chosen to construct the engine with (Google chrome) it made it very likely that Phoenix could work well online but I am a bit surprised none of that is there and equally confused when I found a split-screen mode built into one of the maps. Still, it has been...

Re: Unofficial Overgrowth a189, weekly build
i'm running linux mint x64 on my overgrowth machine, until the last update i had segfaults during level loading. This time is different: starting it with fullscreen config i end up with a grey screen and a movable mouse, the only way to get out is to kill it via a text console starting it with wind...

Re: Unofficial Overgrowth a189, weekly build
Just wanted to report I am getting missing tga file errors on a few maps and I thought it was just one file but it seems it might be others. This was persistent in the last weekly build and continues after updating to this build or I would not mention it. Shame too because I really wanted to see woo...

Re: Script Editor for OG
I definitely agree with the AI bit, but that's just because it's AI. Things like AI are much better done hard coded if you ask me(just because AI is a resource whore), but if they have to be scripted, it should be as broad as possible. The best AI is adaptable, and you can't do that well with simple...

Re: Script Editor for OG
It might have some (or many) mistakes, and I'm sorry for that. I'm not experienced in JavaScript so I quickly skimmed through the W3S tutorials/Wolfire's hotspot blog post to figure out the syntax for it. Either way, it is a lot simpler to skim through than the Kismet equivalent, or at least it wou...

Re: Script Editor for OG
This is not simpler than regular scripting. At least for me. With scripting, you have everything laid out cleanly (if you're a clean coder) and all it takes to change something is scroll down the text and find the lines you want to change. Can you show me what a thousand lines of JavaScript looks l...

Re: Script Editor for OG
I appreciate your continued feedback Jeff, even though it's likely frustrating you. I'm going to give you a wide berth, as they say, because it is still early in development and a lot can be done. My stance doesn't change and never will. I do not think you're wrong, we just have different ways of ap...

Re: Script Editor for OG
I think that you are just a little confused about what you are debating. It sounds like what you want is a tool that compiles a diagram or other simple "fill in the blank" structure down to raw scripts, allowing people who don't know how to program to still make scripts without learning J...

Re: Script Editor for OG
Firstly, I guess I used Java a bit too loosely, and yes I do know the difference. I'm happy to hear that there will apparently be another layer on top of the JavaScript. I'm still seeing people debate its ease who clearly are not, entry level users. The point of a good modding system, isn't to creat...

Re: Script Editor for OG
I was probably a bit harsh in the blog, but I sitll firmly believe in what I said. I've got a hard time stomaching Java as anything but a way to slow down and confound things. You can't 'teach' everyone how to do this and frankly Java already has a bad stigma, which means you'll be scaring away modd...

Re: My work in Cinema 4D : D
Drawing actually has very little consequence on 3D CG. You'll actually benefit more from drama staging experience. Knowing how to lay out a scene, direct lights, cameras, etc. You might look into photography techniques. Your artistic ability is only really going to show in the textures and there's p...

Re: Overgrowth Map editor Scripts
This is in regards to the developers, and I was told to create a thread like this by David. Unless you all want to actually code or use archaic scripting that's nigh programming itself, this is a fairly good way to go. At some point there will be scripts to do particular things. There are always scr...

Re: Unofficial, alpha 17 weekly build
Other than having to update my graphic drivers, the alpha seems to run(mind you my framerate is aweful, but that's performance issues on my end) for me. I've only tried loading one object so far and yeah, it did crash on me. I'd highly suggest you all change the first screen to something less... lag...

Re: My work in Cinema 4D : D
You'd probably get better results using something like a free version of Bryce, which there are a few, than a modellor, to render terrain.

Re: Overgrowth Map editor Scripts
It's been a bit and it seems this thread has gotten some views. Here's another script. [C] Run script only once on loop. Anyone who has ever used scripts know how annoying it is to have a script loop endlessly as the check proves true. This condition makes sure the script doesn't loop and only runs ...
